Do I Have What It Takes?

Every young man asks himself this question. Do I have what it takes to lead? Would others follow me? Will I make a good husband, a good father? Will I be able to provide, to protect? Will I act with courage when it's required of me? Will I stand up for my family and friends? Will I take a stand for the truth?

The answers to these questions will either be a blessing to a young man, or they will haunt him. Trying to answer them apart from God will always lead to vexation and some form of unhealthy substitution.

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee." Isaiah 41:10-11

God's language is pretty clear. His promises are unambiguous.

"Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord." Jeremiah 1:8

God is eternal, unchangeable, always the same, yesterday, today, tomorrow. He is faithful and true to all of His promises. he is all-knowing (omniscient), all-powerful (omnipotent), always present everywhere (omnipresent).

"I am with thee..." In ancient Hebrew culture, being with implied not only physical presence, but also support, alliance, and shared purpose. The idea of God being "with" his people is a recurring assurance of His guidance, blessing, and protection.

So back to the question: "Do I have what it takes?" Apart from God, no, we don't. With Him, absolutely!

Incepto ne desistam!
